Invented by the Chinese over 2,000 years ago, cast iron usage was restrictive due to its high production costs. But in mid-18th century, English improvements to furnace technology made it an affordable hack for symbolic prosperity, allowing people to produce ornate Classical & Italianate facades, and making it a ubiquitous metal in mid-19th century European architecture that still stands today. This project explores how we can leverage this metal synonymous with Europe and use it for L’inouï.

The Design
The vision for the physical retail presence was shared with L’inouï when I developed the Story & Identity for the brand. The same inspiration became the foundation for the design that we developed and deployed in Bangalore, India.
I worked with talented German architect Jonathan Haehn, who with his collaborative spirit and patience translated my design vision into a glorious metal & glass cube for L’inouï; materials that are synonymous with European architecture.

My Role
My primary contribution was the vision and direction for the design, external as well as for the interior, which I had set independently prior to Jonathan being on board. During the actual development I collaborated with Jonathan in the
thought process, space planning, shaping of the physical cube, opening & closing of the cube, the choice of materials used and refrigerator shape. Jonathan developed the architectural blueprint and renders.
